Baphuon Temple
The Baphuon stands north-west of the Bayon inside Angkor Thom. It was built in the middle of the 11th century as the state temple of Udayadityavarman II and dedicated to Shiva.
A 200-metre elevated sandstone causeway leads to the three receding terraces. On the western side, a colossal reclining Buddha was formed from the temple's stones several centuries later.
The monument was dismantled and reassembled during one of the longest archaeological restorations ever attempted at Angkor, reopening to visitors in 2011.
